Overview of Miles Davis
His full name is Miles Dewey Davis III and was born on May 26, 1926. One of the greatest trumpeters and appears on numerous best albums ever lists. He was truly one of the most innovative Jazz musicians of the 20th century.
Miles started his career in the 40s a member of Charlie Parkers bebop quintet. Starting his solo career Miles recorded Birth of Cool which helped start the Cool Jazz movement. In the mid 1950s he signed a long-term record contact with the label Columbia. During the 50s and 60s Miles went on to make some of the most historic and admired Jazz albums of the century including Round About Midnight and Kind of Blue. Miles continued to make revolutionary music throughout his life taking a short hiatus in the 1970s prior to starting back up again in the 1980s. Unfortunately we lost Miles on September 28, 1991 but he will always be with us in spirit.
In 2006 Miles was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame which recognized him as one of the key figures in Jazz history.
